Ashdoda: Home Hospitality in Ashdod

Updated: Dec 9, 2019

Hi there!

I'm happy to share with you a new social tourism project that will be launched in Ashdod this Hannukah. The project entitled "Ashdoda" empowers local female small business entrepreneurs who have decided to host groups in their homes sharing their life stories, craftsmanship, skills and diverse ethnic home-cooking receptions. It's a chance to get an authentic experience, to see how people live in Ashdod and talk face- to-face with them.

The city of Ashdod, prides itself on being multi-cultural, whose residents come from communities from all over the world. Currently, there are 21 women who will be launching the project. I met with 4 and hope to meet with more in the future.

Not all the women are fluent in English. Some will require mediation with a bilingual guide/companion, but you can ask the registration office for advice.

Trip Details

Tzila Michaeli - Fashion Designer - Georgian Cuisine

Tzila is a young, vibrant fashion designer for plus sizes who combines styling with hosting. During the visit, she tells her story of personal development and travels and even shares some Georgian kitchen secrets. I should have written down the recipes. I'll have to go again, it was sooo good.

Einat Baruch - Yoga trainer - Breathing Workshops

Einat a yoga trainer and certified therapist for circular breathing gave us a taste of her breathing workshops in her glass-paned home studio overlooking the Ashdod coastline. The workshop combines an explanation of the theory with refreshing exercises that you can conduct at home.

Michal Nahon - "Hafrashat Challah" Ceremony - Spirituality - Moroccan Cuisine

Michal Nahon, a vibrant Moroccan lady knows how to conduct a "Hafrashat Challah" ceremony, which is used to make the challah bread kosher. Since the ceremony is usually conducted by women, it is often used for female social gatherings before Bat Mitzvah's and other life events. Mihal also spices up the meeting with her knowledge of crystal stones and Kaballah cards. It's fun!

While she was in a baking mode for the ceremony, Mihal spread out a dessert buffet that is worth a visit regardless.

Lily Tzruya - A Positive Outlook Workshop

Lily is a parenting guide and mediator who underwent a difficult event in her life and came out stronger. Meeting a woman with such a powerful character is insightful and inspiring. It gives you something to think and talk about. We met at her lovely home by the sea.
